Vintage Wheels was formed as a Unit of Abu Bekr Temple in 1983. A Number of Abu Bekr Nobles happened to be antique car owners and decided to put their hobby to use on behalf of The Temple. The Vintage Wheels Unit has been popular among the Nobles and has continually increased its membership over the years, and has members from the entire northwest quarter of Iowa. It has some of the finest restored mint antique vehicles anywhere. The Unit’s official duties consist of participating in parades and transporting of the Divan and dignitaries in Shrine parades. The Unit meets the third Thursday every month throughout the year. Each monthly meeting has a designated host committee determined a year in advance which provides entertainment and a program about antique vehicles. The wives are included and are a big part of the monthly meetings, which usually have potluck meal. The Unit also has an Annual Dustoff in which the antique cars are driven as a unit to interesting parts of the area, and serve to advertise Abu Bekr. Vintage Wheels Unit is a working unit and a fun unit we are proud to be a part of Abu Bekr Temple.
